Frequently Asked Questions
-
AirEx Floorvent is a smart air brick system that replaces traditional air bricks with sensor-driven vents. It monitors temperature and humidity under the floor and uses real-time weather data to automatically adjust airflow. This reduces heat loss when it’s cold and maintains healthy ventilation when moisture levels are high.
-
By closing when unnecessary ventilation is detected, Floorvent reduces cold airflow under your floor. This helps prevent draughts and heat loss, making your home warmer and more energy efficient, helping to lower heating bills.
-
Not much! It won’t interfere with anything else in your home, and there are virtually no running costs. The system runs automatically, but to keep it working at its best:
Leave the hub plugged in and powered on.
If your WiFi changes, reconnect the hub.
Change the batteries when notified (around every 5-7 years).
If you’re responsible for maintenance, check out the battery replacement section below. -
No need! Floorvent is a fully automated, "fit-and-forget" system that adjusts itself based on temperature, humidity, and weather data. No buttons, no apps—just smart savings.
-
No manual monitoring is needed. If there is a rare issue (like a battery running low or the hub being offline), you will receive an email notification.
-
Just an occasional battery replacement every 5–7 years. Instructions are provided, and the process is simple.
-
Each smart air brick uses three D-cell batteries, widely available in shops. Battery life is typically 5–7 years. You’ll be notified by email when they need replacing.
-
Remove the grille using a flathead screwdriver.
Unscrew the cover (4 screws) with a Phillips screwdriver.
Replace the three D-cell batteries and screw the cover back on.
If not replaced, the vents will stay open like standard air bricks to maintain airflow.
-
The vents will continue working using their built-in sensors. If the hub loses WiFi or power, it will automatically reconnect when restored. For best performance, keep the hub connected.
-
Flashing pink – Ready to connect to WiFi.

Flashing blue – The hub is being updated.
Flashing red – The hub has lost internet connection.
Solid red – There may be an issue; contact AirEx.
-
Unplug the hub, wait 2–3 minutes, then plug it back in. It will reconnect automatically. The LED will turn solid blue when online.
-
Reset the hub – Press and hold the button on the front until the light turns off (around 10 seconds). The light on the front will flash different colours for a few seconds and then settle on flashing pink, it is now ready to connect.
Scan the QR code - Open the camera on your mobile phone and scan the WiFi Setup QR code on the top of the hub. This should open a webpage called Connect. If not you can type 192.168.4.1 into your internet browser app (e.g. Chrome or Safari) to access this page.
Press the Configure WiFi button - This will then bring up a list of available WiFi networks. You should then select your home’s network from the list and enter your WiFi password when prompted (this may be on the back or base of your router).
The hub will connect within 30 seconds - The light will turn blue.
-
Floorvent automatically opens and closes vents based on underfloor sensors and weather data. This ensures the right balance between heat retention and healthy airflow, helping keep your home warm and dry.
-
By reducing the energy needed to heat your home, AirEx helps lower carbon emissions—making it an easy, effective way to live more sustainably.
-
The smart air bricks and hub are designed to last around 15 years. The D-cell batteries will need replacing every 5–7 years.
-
The hub uses under 3kWh per year—around 70p. With typical heating bill savings of an average of £168 per year, it more than pays for itself.
