Healthy Homes
Right temperature, right ventilation
A healthy home is warm and well ventilated. Not too hot, not too cold, and with the right ventilation to avoid damp, mould and discomfort.
Too often, homes miss the mark. Poor air quality, high energy costs, draughts and underheating are common issues. These can affect comfort and wellbeing of residents who then turn off or close ventilators which can result in condensation, damp and mould, in turn leading to potential health risks. It sometimes seems that the needs of the home and the needs of residents are in conflict.
We think that ventilation should work with and around the residents, providing ventilation when it is needed and in ways that don’t cause discomfort. In this way AirEx smart technology helps maintain the right balance between what’s right for the home and what residents experience.
There are a number of systems available that monitor the indoor environment and provide data and insights. But we think that it is important that the home should be able to respond to these signals, not just report on them. So our systems are designed to provide insights and take action - smart data-driven control.
We have demonstrated this approach with AirEx Floorvent which brings smart control to the underfloor void. It monitors temperature and humidity, and adapts ventilation to prevent damp while keeping heat in.
It opens when airflow is needed, and closes to reduce draughts and improve energy performance. It’s a simple upgrade that protects both the home and the resident.
It also collects and shares data on property conditions. This helps landlords monitor the underfloor health of a home and reduces maintenance.
Smart control where it’s needed
Towards whole home smart ventilation
We’re now developing a smart ventilation system for the rest of the home. This will build on the same approach, automated, resident-friendly and data-led.
The goal is simple. To provide ventilation that works for residents and for the home Provide background ventilation only when it’s needed, reduce draughts and heat loss, and support compliance with Building Regulations.
Smart control for the whole home will offer a true alternative to trickle vents and expensive systems like MVHR. Combined with AirEx data and insights, it will help future-proof homes for changing use, improved insulation and climate demands.
