Smart airflow under the floor

Floorvent is our intelligent replacement for traditional air bricks. Installed externally, it uses built-in sensors to monitor temperature, humidity, and outdoor weather conditions.

Based on this data, the vent opens or closes automatically to reduce unnecessary heat loss while maintaining healthy air movement under suspended floors.

Floorvent cuts the constant airflow that contributes to up to 15% of heat loss in older homes. It activates only when conditions demand it, keeping homes warmer for longer, without compromising moisture levels beneath the floor.

Proven performance, built for retrofit

Backed by real-world field trials, Floorvent has been shown to reduce heating energy demand by an average of 12% per home. It improves SAP scores by 2 to 4 points, uplifts EPC ratings, and is BBA certified, SAP listed, and PAS 2035 and 2030 compliant.

Floorvent integrates seamlessly into a property without the need for invasive work. Installation takes around an hour with no access to the living space required. That means minimal disruption, high resident acceptance, and easy delivery at scale under funding schemes like ECO4 and Warm Homes.

Traditional air brick being replaced by an Airex smart air brick
  • Traditional air brick being replaced by Airex smart venilation system

Airex vents are designed to be a like-for-like replacement for existing air bricks. They include an actuating flap which opens and closes based either on instructions form the hub or from in-built logic. Vents are standard brick sized (3"x 9") with conversion kits available for larger sized regular openings.

  • Airex smart airbrick hub being connection to the router

Airex hubs act as a bridge between the vents and the cloud. They receive data and relay instructions to Airex vents via sub 1GHz radio and communicate with the cloud (using broadband or 4G). Hubs are mains powered and connect to routers using ethernet or WiFi.

  • Data from the Airex smart air brick ventilation system

Data from both vents and hubs is received by Airex’s cloud control system. Based on the current conditions measured by vents and hubs as well as external weather data decisions are made as to whether to open or close vents to optimise energy efficiency, comfort and air quality.

AirEx is now developing Roomvent, a new technology for airflow management in habitable rooms. Designed to work alongside Floorvent, it will bring the same sensor-driven control to living spaces, further reducing heat loss while helping to manage damp, condensation, and comfort.

Together, Floorvent and Roomvent will form a smart, whole-home airflow solution. Simple to install, responsive to real conditions, and designed to support net zero retrofit goals, this approach offers a new way to deliver energy efficiency with impact.

Looking ahead: Roomvent
