What is AirEx Floorvent?
The AirEx Floorvent system controls airflow underneath your floor. It allows air to flow in when needed to keep the area dry but blocks cold and moist air when it is able to. By doing this the space beneath your floor is kept warmer and less heat is lost through your floor as a result.
The Floorvent system includes smart air bricks and a home hub. The smart air bricks replace your old air bricks and intelligently open or close to keep your home warm. The home hub allows the air bricks to work together to keep your home warm and safe.
You only need one home hub. It has been designed so that you can plug another device, (like your TV for example) into it and not lose the use of a socket.
A number of smart air bricks will be installed in your home. All of your old air bricks should have been replaced unless there was an obstacle that meant this wasn’t possible.
The installation process
Connecting the system
The home hub is connected to your home’s WiFi network.
Fit the air brick
The old air bricks are replaced by new smart air bricks.
Using the Floorvent system
1. Leave the hub plugged in and powered on.
2. Reconnect the hub to your WiFi network if the login details ever change.
3. Change the batteries when notified by AirEx (roughly every 5 years).
What the different coloured lights on your hub mean
Flashing pink
The hub is ready to connect to WiFi (pairing mode).
Blue
The hub is online and connected to the internet.
Flashing red
The hub has disconnected from the internet.
Solid red
Here may be a problem with the hub, contact AirEx.
Maintenance
The Floorvent system is designed so that it works automatically without the need for you to monitor or manage it. To make sure the system continues to reduce heat loss in your home and that your floor is safe all you need to do is:
Make sure your hub is plugged in and connected to your home’s WiFi network.
The batteries in your air bricks are replaced when needed (roughly every five years).
Connecting to WiFi
Your home hub should already be connected to your home’s WiFi network as part of the installation process and probably won't need to be connected again.
However if you ever change your WiFi details (for example if you change internet provider) you can reconnect the hub by doing the following:
1. Reset the hub by pressing and holding the button on the front until the light turns off (around 10 seconds). The light on the front will flash different colours for a few seconds and then settle on flashing pink, it is now ready to connect.
2. Find the WiFi setup label on the hub and, using a mobile device, scan the QR code. (You can scan the QR code by opening the camera on your mobile phone and focusing on the QR code).
3. This should open a webpage called “Connect your AirEx hub to WiFi”. If not you can type 192.168.4.1 into your internet browser app (e.g. Chrome or Safari) to access this page.
4. Press the Configure WiFi button on the displayed page. This will then bring up a list of available WiFi networks. You should then select your home’s network from the list and enter your WiFi password when prompted (this may be on the back or base of your router).
5. It takes about 30 seconds for the hub to connect, and the light will then turn blue.
Changing the batteries
The smart air bricks run on three D cell batteries which you can buy in most shops. They should last for five years or more. As they draw towards their end of life you will receive an email to let you know that they need to be replaced.
If they are not replaced, then the smart air bricks will open and stay open to make sure that the area underneath your floor does not get too humid (just like a standard air brick).
Remove the grille
The grille can be removed by inserting a flat head screwdriver into the slots at the sides.
Unscrew the cover
A philips head screwdriver can be used to remove the four screws.
Replace the batteries
The batteries can be replaced by three d-cells
FAQs
How does the Floorvent system work?
The system has built-in sensors that detect temperature and humidity beneath your floor. This is combined with local weather data received through your home hub to determine when your air bricks should open to allow fresh air to flow when you need it.
How does the AirEx Floorvent help me save on energy bills?
By stopping cold air from entering the space under your floor and making the area warmer, it reduces heat loss through your floor. As there is less airflow there will also be less cold air that can enter your home through small gaps in your floor.
Can I manually adjust when the smart air bricks open or close?/ Is there an app I can use?
The Floorvent system has been designed to operate without the need for manual control. They open and close automatically to keep your home healthy, so you don’t need to change anything. For these reasons, there is no AirEx app available to users of the system.
Will the system still work if there is no WiFi connection?/ What happens if there is a power outage?
If there is a temporary loss of power to the hub or of internet connectivity the smart air bricks will continue to function thanks to their built-in sensors. When the power or WiFi is back, the hub will reconnect on its own. It is not recommended to have the hub disconnected for long periods as the information it passes to the smart air bricks helps them to work optimally.
How long will the Floorvent system work for?
The smart air bricks and hub have a life expectancy of around 15 years, the batteries inside the smart air bricks should last at least 5 years.
How much does it cost to run the home hub?
The AirEx hub consumes less than 3kWh/year of electricity which costs around 70p per year. This is a small amount considering the average household will see their energy bills decrease by around £50 per year due to Floorvent. You will also see an increase in the EPC rating of your home, usually by 2-4 points.
